Dominic Diaz

Rock-climbing was probably one of Dominic's favourite things to do. Sweat rolled off of his bicep as he hung in mid-reach for a moment, closing his eyes. He could almost feel the arid climate of the mountain around him, and taste the sand in the breeze as it touched his tongue. With another grunt, he completed his movement, right foot slipping easily into a notch in the crags. He looked down and smiled triumphantly - he'd done it. He'd made it to the top.

It was too bad down below was the floor of a blue gym mat, and the flailing of Rowen's arms before Dominic saw something small and orange sailing at him. A Nerf football pelted him on the leg, causing him to let go of the rock. The harness jerked him as he fell, the strange pulley system somehow stopping him before he smashed his face into the ground. He swung back and forth uselessly about fifteen feet in the air, and finally was able to kick over enough to grab onto one of the hand-holes. He un-did his rigging and jumped down, scooping up the football and throwing it at Rowen's face.

"Thanks for that," he said with a laugh. "I guess you'd rather be surfing?" he asked, snatching a towel to wipe his face. The only reason he'd even broken a sweat at all was because he'd been running for an hour before he'd even attempted the rock wall, otherwise he'd have been as cool as a cucumber. It paid, however, to maintain a human sort of guise.

Seriously, Rowen wasn't stupid, but he probably wasn't perceptive enough to notice if Dominic wasn't sweating.  Of course, there was also the potential that his pride would have been damaged if he'd been sweating and his friend hadn't.  Competition was one of those things with him.  Either way, he wouldn't have gotten suspicious.  He'd have just pushed himself harder.

"Welcome," he returned pleasantly, throwing his hands up to block the ball before it could impact his face.  It ricocheted upwards from the angle he'd had his hands, and he caught it as it fell.  His hands stung a little, which meant that Dominic had thrown it pretty hard.  Thus why he hadn't tried to catch it from the start.  He wasn't risking his face on the chance he'd catch one of Dominic's throws.  The man could drill you with a football better than a demonic dentist.  " 'Course I would, wouldn't anyone?  New York is lame for its lack of surfing."

New York definitely had its high points, but he missed the surfing.  "From the zen look on your face, I'm betting you're thinking New York is pretty lame, too.  Wish you were climbing a real mountain, or what?"

"Always," he admitted. "We should go upstate this winter and participate in more snowboarding carnage. I hear there's going to be a tournament this time around. I'm considering it. You should, too, actually. It's like surfing, it's just... on snow," he said with a shrug. It made sense in his head. He took a long drink of his water, and he was moderately thankful that he actually liked water, because he was pretty strict about hydration, and he'd hate for it to taste ass. It would have been nice if it tasted like marshmallows or something, though.

"What's the plan for tonight, anything? I was considering just going home, but if you're here, it must mean we're going out. Bar, club, movie?" he asked, firing off random guesses and suggestions. "Could make trouble on campus, too. I heard one of the frats is throwing a pretty good party, we could hit that up. Can't stay out ultra late, though. Test tomorrow," he said with a frown.

Dominic might have been a lot of things, but lax on his schoolwork wasn't one of them. He took that much about his life serious enough that he was pretty committed. Fortunately, he'd also studied so much that if he didn't know the material by now, he was never going to know it, so it worked out.
