Skye was glad that the Doctor met her at the entrance of the Guildhouse, and she bit her lip nervously, wondering how much of a reprimand she was going to catch for this. Skye was not in the business of bringing strangers to secure locations, but Jason couldn't really help himself right now.

As she followed the doctor in, she tried explaining what was happening, but he shooed her out of the room almost instantly to examine Jason without her stressing all over the place.

"I'll be right outside, Jason," she called as the doctor harrumphed and shut the door on her. She sighed. What a night.

In the hallway, she sat down in a chair and let out an exhausted sigh. She pulled out her cell phone and dialed Nick... time to check in and explain herself.

Jason wasn't the happiest person in the world, especially having some strange doctor cutting through his shirt and jacket to get to the stab wound, but it was even worse having Skye leave.  At least he felt better, and safer, with her there.  It was the pakana thing, and once the doctor shooed her out, he wasn't so confident in the situation.  He didn't exactly have much in the way of a choice, though.

Nick might have been slightly happier than Jason, but that was only because he wasn't bleeding, nor was he in pain.  He was awake though, which actually wasn't his preference.  Sure, he could stay up to all hours, and had, for various jobs and waiting up for Skye when he knew she was going to be home late.  When there wasn't anything going on, he liked to get to sleep early, preferably with his wife curled up with him and as many soft, comfortable blankets as the season allowed.  Considering they had a good A/C system, that could be quite a few.  Even a hardcore mercenary and an amazing sniper were entitled to comforts like that, and he was like just about every other cat in the world in his sleeping preferences.

Hearing Skye on the phone yelling Jason's name, then rushing out of the house without an explanation had pretty much wrecked that, and he was torn between being pissy that she hadn't asked if he wanted to come, worrying about the fact that he hadn't followed her to whatever danger the male hyena might be drawing her into, and then being angry that the little hyena had even called her.  Why hadn't he just called Ebere?  What was going on?

He had a little while to sit and stew with that, worrying and being angry, before his cell rang and he instantly answered it.  He hadn't even looked at who was calling, and he pitied anyone other than Skye that might be on the other end.  "Skye?  What the hell happened?  Are you okay?" he demanded, sounding both angry and relieved to hear her voice.  "What'd the little shit do?"

"Grah, calm down and let me TALK!" she snapped in response, slightly annoyed that he was hitting her with a barrage of questions. "Jason didn't DO anything. Some creep vampire jumped him and a friend and he got knifed. Ebere is on the WARPATH."

Great, a vampire.  It was one thing to have Skye deal with vampires from a distance, and when there was a plan involved.  Rushing in to save the kid wasn't a 'plan' to him.  "You're okay, then?  You didn't actually run into the vampire?"  Yep, his concerns were extremely clear.  "Do you want me to get Ebere, or do you think she can handle it on her own?"

Skye relaxed a little as he backed off of her. "No, didn't see him. No, don't go get Ebere. I'm fairly confident she can handle herself, and her instructions to me were pretty clear. As soon as they stabilize Jason, I'll call her and get a status update." She sighed again and swallowed hard.

"I want to come home."

He didn't like hearing her say that she wanted to come home, like she couldn't, and she should have been able to hear the unhappy growl that escaped him.  "So come home, baby.  If he's with a doctor, he'll be fine.  Even weak shifters won't die that easily once a doctor has them.  Unless he had his throat ripped out or something, he'll probably be fine.  Ebere will probably be there when he wakes up, anyway."

"No, not yet. I promised her I'd wait, so that's what I have to do." There was silence on the line for a minute. "I'm going to go get something to drink. I'll call you when I'm ready to leave."

He sighed, obviously not pleased with it, but he didn't have a choice.  He couldn't tell her to come home after she'd promised she'd stay, but he didn't have to be happy about it.  "Alright.  Tell the kid not to get hurt anymore.  I'll talk to you soon, baby."

Once they'd traded goodbyes, he hung up the cell and just stared at it for a moment, then went to lay down and watch TV while he waited for Skye to get home.  It was either that or go get her, and he didn't think she'd appreciate that.  He could do laundry too, but he didn't feel like it.

Skye wandered down the hall and then back around to the door, and tapped on it lightly. She sniffed around at the crack like a real animal might have, indicating that she was there and also giving her an idea of what was going on. She could smell sterile pads and blood, but she could also smell other things - medical supplies all smelled metallic and dusty. She considered the dusty smell to be pills themselves, but she could never explain it.

The smells made her want to gag at any rate, and she made a face while moving her tongue around as though she'd gotten a bad taste in her mouth. She backed up a few feet and stepped to the water fountain, getting a long, cold drink. As she was bent, she heard the door open.

"Okay Skye, you can come in now," the doctor said.

She peered into the room at Jason, and folded her arms. Relieved, really. "How do you feel now?" she inquired. She was mentally preparing herself for some verbal battering, though.

Jason was shirtless, still hurting some, and felt like a mummy, but he was alive, and that was a good thing.  With any luck, he could heal up soon and not have to worry about any of it, since he could just about guarantee that his roommate would notice soon enough if not.  He just hoped Ebere found Danny, and that she was okay.

"Better with you here," he answered honestly, and most of that was because of the Pakana thing.  Somehow, he got the feeling that Skye would have been tougher about all this, though.  "Sorry, Skye."

He punctuated that with a yawn, and didn't happen to notice the doctor doing anything behind him.  Like preparing sleeping meds.

"Don't apologize, Jason," she said firmly. "This is not your fault. You had no idea. I wager Ebere probably tried to warn you about some of this, but it's never a reality until it happens." She paused. "You're actually in the medical area of where I work, Jason." She smiled a little. "Maybe when you feel better I'll take you on a tour. You haven't met Stella yet, but I assure you she's about as timid as you are - no offense."

Stella had been coming around the Guild Houses to see the two Pakana as long as Skye had known her. Ebere was pretty adament that especially since she'd had a vampire boyfriend before, she needed to know what was up, especially when it came to defending herself. She hadn't objected.

"She did, but....I didn't know it was a vampire after Danny.  Ebere said that vampires liked shifters anyway, and Danny's just a human, so I thought it was just some creep.  I didn't hear or smell him in the area until he was right behind me and I was bleeding.  I didn't know they could do that," he said, still unaware of the doctor and frowning ever so slightly when she called him timid.  He didn't like to admit it, but it wasn't like he could deny it.  He wasn't a fighter or a strong, aggressive personality, and he knew it.

"It's okay, at least it's true.  A tour would be nice, though.  So would meeting Stella."  He'd heard a little bit about her from the other two women, but nothing much.  It'd be nice to finally meet her, even if it had to be on the tail end of this.  The doctor seemed to be hovering and waiting for Skye to finish up their conversation.  Gee, he was nice to Skye, but when certain dangerous chainsmokers showed up, he was all stern and business-like.  Imagine that.

"Yeah, I bet you'd like Stella. She's that Australian radio DJ on the rock station in the city. She's really hard to miss. She even has a hyena sound effect she uses as a little laugh fill noise late at night. It's kind of funny, actually," she said with a chuckle. She stepped out of the way so the doctor could administer the medication, and watched him carefully as he told her he'd need to see her when she was finished with Jason. She glanced back to Jason and pushed her nerves back down into her stomach where they were meant to stay.

"Jason, I'm going to let the doctor do his thing now, okay? You can tell him to call me if your phone dies, or they can give you a phone to call me on. I'll put my ringer on instead of on vibrate so I'll hear it." Somehow she doubted he was going to wake up through the demoral dose that the doctor had prepped. He'd mixed it with some animal tranquilizers that were sure to drift Jason off to La-La Land.

She felt bad, but at the same time, fortunate. She wanted to go back home to her husband.

"I don't listen to much late-night radio, but I think I've heard her a little earlier," he commented, only realizing what the doctor was doing when Skye moved and the man stepped up to stick him with a needle.  He made a sour face, not really minding the needle because it healed in about half a second, but he still wasn't fond of the idea of being drugged to sleep.  There weren't many tranquilizers that worked on shifters, but he was willing to bet this guy knew what he was doing.

Yep, the guy knew.  He was already starting to feel drowsy by the time Skye started giving him instructions, so he just nodded.  "Make sure Ebere's okay?  And Danny?" he asked, since he obviously couldn't.  If anything horrible happened to Danny or Ebere, he could never forgive himself for being this weak.

"I'll make sure you meet her as soon as you recover, then. She's a real treat," Skye promised. She paused as he asked her to check on Ebere and Danny. Ebere she would, of course, be calling the moment she was finished with the doctor. Danny... she hoped Ebere had a status report. Her obligations went only as far as her Pakana. As long as nothing compromised them, she could check on him as well. Skye had a knack for drawing out fire, though. She hoped Ebere had dealt with the problem.

Apprehensively, she left, watching him drift off to sleep. She pulled out her phone no sooner than the conversation with the doctor, and dialed Ebere. When she had that finished, she headed back out to her truck. She was exhausted. She called Nick.

"I'm on my way home," she said wearily.

He answered his phone on the first ring, obviously concerned about her, and nodded even though she couldn't see it.  "Alright, baby, I'll be up waiting for you," he told her, obviously able to hear how tired she was in her voice.  He hated hearing that, but it'd give him an excuse to demand that she sleep late with him.

He loved sleeping late.

As far as he knew, neither of them had anything pressing to deal with in the morning, and so that was the perfect opportunity.  Maybe he'd even get lucky and get some early morning sex out of the deal, though he was alright if he didn't.  He was a pretty agreeable guy, so long as he wasn't thinking about male hyenas hanging out with his wife.

He even pulled out the electric blanket while he was waiting for her, both for something to do and because he knew she'd like it.  There was nothing worse than sliding in between cold sheets, and even if he'd been laying there earlier, that didn't mean the entire bed was warm.  It was finally starting to feel like the seasons were changing, so he was sure she'd be a little chilly when she got in.
