Anubi (Jackal)

  • Advantages: Anubi are known for stamina, and in their animal form can run as fast as 10MPH and maintain that speed for long periods of time. In their human form, they are not quite as fast (having only two legs does cause some room for error), but they retain their longevity - they are remarkably quick, and hard to tire out easily. Despite the size of the human form (as some cases of infection are), the bulk of the body does not become cumbersome, but rather seems to flow as they entertain rigorous physical activity. They seem to shine when put to physical endurance tests, as they do not tire nearly as easily as most.
  • Disadvantages: Jackals are extremely territorial of things and areas that they deem as theirs, either from other Anubi or from entities they feel are 'intruders'. They will often go so far as to mark their own territory in strange ways - in animal form, they will most definitely be compelled to relieve themselves in a perimeter area; in human form, they may even be inclined to do the same. It is almost an uncontrollable urge, as with the desire to defend, and they may find themselves in hot water with other groups of people for sudden inexplicable behavioral outbursts such as these.
  • Other Notes: The origins of the Anubi shifter go back as far as Egyptian mythos. It is said that the god Anubis himself lay with a female and the child that was produced had the ability to move between the world of animal and man with but a thought. The problem is that most texts are lost, and Anubi shifters are so rare that the chance of them converging and finding someone to actually do research about their history is a slim one. Because the nature of the Anubi shifter is ideally in pairs (traditionally, the way the setup goes is that a pair of mates, male and female, will be 'in charge' of their territory), Anubi shifters are extremely rare, and very picky about who they will set up shop with. Males and females both have been known to, when breeding times are slim pickings, infect others around them in order to spread their genetics. They don't care so much for the purification of a line, but an Anubi shifter will not choose a mate that is not also an Anubi. Period. They can become involved with humans, but much like the Pakana (except multiplied tenfold), the only thing that will ever really click to them is Anubi.

Anubi can be both the plural form of the breed as a whole, or the male term for a jackal shifter. A female Anubi shifter has her own proper title: Bardi.

Due to social complications and rarity, any player wanting to make one should probably consider the decision very closely, as Anubi thrive basically on other Anubi and aren't very common.  Anyone considering one should contact Ash Leone or look into the Pakana/Hyenas.
  • Characteristics
    • Anubi are generally in excellent physical condition; most of them are active individuals and oftentimes slightly daredevil-ish due to their stamina.
    • As said before, Anubi are very selective about who they choose for mates; other shifters are automatically a no. Anything that is not an Anubi and cannot be turned into one doesn't even register on their radar. At all. During cases of infection, it can break entire families apart when a Bardi or an Anubi suddenly realizes that they are nowhere near another Anubi.
    • Anubi work together in pairs amazingly well. Between the mated Anubi and Bardi, there is actually said to be a sort of connection - in human form, they have an uncanny ability to read each other's thoughts and emotions. In animal form, they will move and breathe as one, making a deadly combination when defending their territory.
    • Because Anubi in legend are associated so closely with Anubis, and therefor the dead, Anubi have a special sort of resilience against vampires. A vampire cannot pierce their mind with any sort of mental attack. Physically, of course, they can do damage just as any other, but as most of a vampire's battle can rely on the mental breaking-down of a victim, it can cripple one who is not so experienced in a fight.
